Otaku Scrolls has a brand new Games feature, and it is opening with considerably more screaming, cursed umbrellas, and weaponized anime heroines than most sensible websites would attempt. Yokai Siege is now playable directly in your browser at https://otaku scrolls.com/games . There is nothing to download, no launcher to install, and no suspicious plugin asking for permissions it absolutely does not need. You pick a heroine, enter the field, and spend the next fifteen minutes trying not to be flattened by an increasingly rude parade of yokai. A Fifteen Minute War Against Everything Yokai Siege is a single player roguelite survivor game inspired by the gloriously chaotic formula popularized by Vampire Survivors. Your weapons attack automatically, leaving you responsible for the supposedly easier jobs: moving, dodging, collecting experience, and making upgrade decisions while forty monsters attempt to occupy the exact square of ground where you are standing. Each run lasts fifteen minutes. That sounds manageable until the screen fills with zombie salarymen, tengu masked crows, oni sumo wrestlers, armored demon boars, and haunted umbrella yokai. Apparently the spirit world has excellent organizational skills and no respect for personal space. Every level up presents three upgrade choices drawn from a pool of eight weapons and twenty two charms. Weapons can secretly evolve into stronger forms, while charms reshape the rest of your build through bonuses to damage, speed, critical hits, recovery, gold, and other statistics that become very important once the screen starts resembling a supernatural traffic accident. You can equip five charms during a run, which means every attempt develops differently. One run might turn Rei into a crit heavy cyber ninja who survives through lifesteal and bleeding damage. Another might transform Kuroe into a cursed knight who becomes more dangerous as her health drops. Mimi can build around gold until the battlefield looks less like an exorcism and more like a highly profitable natural disaster. Five Heroines, Five Different Ways to Cause Problems The current roster includes five playable heroines, each with her own starting weapon, passive trait, and signature ultimate ability on an approximately three minute cooldown. Hikari the Shrine Maiden is the classic spiritual defender, using sacred power to keep the yokai population at a healthier number. Rei the Cyber Ninja brings speed, precision, and the important discovery that glowing circuitry improves almost any ninja outfit. Momo the Slime Witch mixes spellcasting with cheerful gelatinous assistance. Kuroe the Cursed Knight turns danger into strength, which is an excellent strategy until danger becomes a twelve story skeleton. Mimi the Neko Idol is unlockable and fights with the confidence of someone who believes every monster attack is simply another part of the stage show. The ultimates give each character a dramatic emergency button, although “emergency” tends to become the default condition somewhere around the ten minute mark. Three Stages That Actually Change the Fight Yokai Siege currently includes three stages, and they are more than different backgrounds behind the same swarm. Sakura Meadow contains spirit ponds that slow your movement but restore health, turning every pond into a tactical decision between survival and becoming extremely easy to surround. Yokai Castle features braziers that burn any yokai wandering too close, which finally gives environmental hazards the correct moral alignment. Frost Peak includes frozen ponds that send your character sliding, because fighting a supernatural army was apparently not difficult enough without accidental ice skating. Periodic stampedes of spirit lion dogs also thunder across the field. They ignore the player entirely and continue in a straight line, proving that even magical beasts understand the value of staying focused. Anything caught in their path may feel differently. The Bosses Arrive on Schedule At the 7:30 mark, the Gashadokuro rises. This colossal skeletal yokai is the run’s first major test and a useful reminder that the tiny skeletons from earlier were merely warming you up. It arrives with a massive skull, cursed flames, and the general posture of something that has never once considered using an indoor voice. Survive until 15:00 and the Nine Tailed Yokai Empress appears as the final boss. She is elegant, powerful, surrounded by enormous tails, and completely uninterested in how well your build was doing thirty seconds earlier. Defeating bosses unlocks higher difficulty levels. Yokai Siege includes Story, Normal, Hard, and Oni difficulties, giving players a path from “I would like to see the game” to “I have made several decisions and now the game is punishing me personally.” Failure Still Makes You Stronger Gold collected during a run persists after the run ends and can be spent on permanent shrine upgrades. That means even a failed attempt contributes to future progress. The shrine provides long term stat improvements, while achievements unlock additional characters and difficulty levels. It creates a satisfying loop where every run matters, whether you defeat the Empress or spend the final minute trapped between an oni wrestler and three extremely motivated crows. This permanent progression also makes experimentation easier. A strange build that collapses halfway through the run is not a complete loss. It is research. Painful, embarrassing research, but research nonetheless. A Full Game Running Directly in the Browser Yokai Siege runs entirely inside the browser using HTML canvas. It requires no plugins, no downloads, and no separate account just to begin playing. It supports both keyboard and touch controls, making it playable on desktop and mobile devices. The game is free to play as part of the new Otaku Scrolls Games section. It is also the beginning of a broader expansion for the site, adding original interactive features alongside anime and gaming articles, forums, recommendations, and community tools. Yokai Siege is available now at https://otaku scrolls.com/games . Pick a heroine, build something irresponsible, and try to survive fifteen minutes. The yokai have already started without you.
